Marriage, Divorce And Remarriage
God long ago joined man and woman together as one flesh for life. Genesis 2:18-24, Matthew 19:4-6. The God given institution of marriage between man and woman is to be “till death do us part”.
Yet many today would divorce their spouses for any reason. We also would note that God hates the putting away (divorce). Malachi 2:16. Jesus commanded; “What God hath joined together, let not man put asunder” Matthew 19:6.
Many have taken vows together before God only to break each and every one.
Jesus states in two different texts that there is only one reason for divorce. Divorcement for sexual immorality (fornication) only! Matthew 5:32, Matthew 19:9. This is heaven’s decree! We can’t change the Law of God concerning this!
Now people, throughout time, have disobeyed God’s command in regards to divorcing one another, without scriptural cause. If that is not bad enough, now we have people throughout time, remarrying without scriptural cause. Let’s consider this sinful practice of man, and let us be aware of the consequences before God.
God’s Law Concerning Divorce And Remarriage
“And I say unto you, Whosoever shall put away his wife, except it be for fornication, and shall marry another, committeth adultery: and whoso marrieth her which is put away doth commit adultery” Matthew 19:9.
The Scriptures show only two classes of people who have the right to remarry. Those whose mate is dead. Romans 7: 1-4. Those who have put away their spouse for fornication. Matthew 19:9. All others? “whoremongers and adulterers God will judge” Hebrews 13:4. Make sure you marry the right person and for the right reason! Marriage, divorce, remarriage is of God, let’s keep His Law!
